Well, scan yesterday proved inconclusive. Rooney will have another one done on June 14th. I would bet any money that the story from the England doctor earlier in the week was more truthful, that he is progressing “perfectly”. And I’m sure he was being fed that info by Dr. Mike Stone, who then got the sack this week, surely for being the “leak” that subverted SAF’s intended “it doesn’t look good” message. After that first good news story, Man Utd wheeled out Bobby Charlton and MUFC captain Gary Neville to spread some caution.

MUFC have a lot of experience with metatarsal injuries, but none were 4th metatarsal injuries, were they? I know Neville’s was a 5th (the longest to heal), and Beckham’s was a 2nd (less than a 5th, but longer than a 4th), I don’t know what Roy Keane’s was.

Rooney’s is a 4th, which takes the shortest time to heal. Anyone know how Ledley King is doing now, as his was a 4th?

I think England should do their own scan once Rooney links up with them next week, and then use whatever powers they have to keep him in the camp after that. If Man Utd throw a hissy, the FA should make it known in no uncertain terms that they will make life hell for their club if they cross them.

As it is, a June 14th all-clear would give Rooney 10 days to get ready for a Round of 16 match, and 16-17 days to get ready for a potential QF. Given that he is doing light training on the bicycle even now, that should be doable.
