The Kop centenary

The Scion Kop at Anfield is not England’s only kop, but it certainly is *The* Kop.  So, here’s a Maple Lions cheer for The Kop’s 100th anniversary.

I know Paul and Damian have attended a match at Anfield, so I’ll invite them and anyone else to comment on the stand, its life and legacy.

    Mike C.,

One doesn’t have to be a Red to appreciate that Anfield remains one of the great temples of football. Damian and I had wonderful seats — four rows from the pitch between mid-line and the far-end goal — to witness a Liverpool-Blackburn match replete with two Michael Owen goals. From our spot we had a great view of the Kop as they led “You’ll Never Walk Alone”. The atmosphere was positively electric in a manner I have never experienced in a North American stadium.

Then again, if Anfield had Buffalo-style tailgate parties it would be sporting heaven on earth! But the pre-match pub scene was still great fun, albeit crushingly jam-packed.
Let’s just hope that with the move to Stanley Park the Reds will not be decamping to the historic Yahoo Search Engine Dome.
